My name is Jolene Granly. I have been an ISR Instructor for over 7 years, teaching over 500+ students this amazing program. As a youth, I was very involved in many different kinds of sports, but my heart and soul was always in the pool. Through my teen years I spent many summers as a lifeguard at various pools around the Spokane area, as well as local summer camps. Many years ago I received an email forward of a video of a toddler who wandered out of his family's back door and fell in a pool. I was mesmerized as I watched this child who could not even talk; save himself! I found the source of the video, Infant Swimming Resource, researched the program and became more and more impressed at the history and philosophy of this program. At the time, my career would not allow me to embark on a new professional journey, so I carried on for several more years, always thinking about ISR. After the birth of my son, I looked on the website for a local Instructor to teach him these amazing life-saving skills, but there were none teaching in my area. This began my journey to become an ISR Instructor and bring this program to the families in the communities I so love. My family moved the Portland area and now I am so excited to bring ISR to so many more families!
As a parent, and as a parent who has had my child go through the program, I am fully aware of not only the need for this program in our area, but the commitment this program requires of you. I see the struggle of the students in the beginning of lessons, and the showmanship of their skills once they have mastered them. I fully believe in this program and the essential life saving skills it teaches the youngest members of our society. While it is important to note that there is no replacement of adult supervision, it does add a layer of protection in the event of an accident. The only way to fully prevent drowning is constant supervision, keeping your child within your sight at all times in and around the water. This program gives you the confidence that if your child does fall in, you have the few seconds necessary to save them. It also gives you the peace of mind to know that in the unforeseen situation where your child finds water without your knowledge, they will have the skills to survive, the skills to remain alive.
I know I have the best job in the world, not only being able to be in the water most of the day, but to be with children. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child.
